You could try buying an used DVD or burn a DVD from am ISO download. For example, there is this ISO download of Leopard (which I have not verified). If successful, the you should install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.

We are unble to download Sophos to one of our MAC's. We are currently using version 10.4.11 MAC OS X on this particular MAC- I am trying to download -us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition/download.aspx .
I don't have 10.4 so I can't test this for you. The Sophos site says SAV 8 is compatible with 10.4 (Tiger). Out of interest can you open Terminal, change directory to the folder you downloaded the file to (maybe cd /Downloads ) and they type:
When Apple released 10.8 they introduced a requirement on a new installer package format that is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.4. So either we have a package that works for 10.4 but doesn't work with 10.8, or we have a package that works with 10.5+. We went with the second option.
